Topic of your Task: Abolition and the Underground Railroad.
Time Frame: 1 day
CCR Standards: Reading Anchor Standards 1 & 9, Writing Anchor Standards 1, 4, 6 & 8
Your assignment: Imagine that you are a writing a letter to a friend and you are explaining to your friend what the Underground Railroad really was. In this letter, tell your friend why the underground railroad was created, how it worked, and talk about at least one famous person who was important in helping slaves get to the North and freedom.
Steps you will be following: In order to plan and write your letter, you will do all of the following:
1) Read the article, The Underground Railroad, watch the video, Secrets and Codes of the Underground Railroad, and take dash notes on both of these. Both of these are on the resources page.
2) Organize your information, plan, and write your letter. You may open a word document to write your letter, or just write it on a piece of paper. Your teacher will decide which will work best.
3) You will want to refer to your notes while writing your letter. You can re-read the article and re-watch the video as often as you need to.
